Acrylic knit: Acrylic knit garments can be machine-washed. Always check the label first and check for the drying option. Some can retain their shape better if dried flat.
Cashmere: Check the label for cashmere before washing. If you are choosing the hand-wash, using a mild-detergent or shampoo. Make sure to gently squeeze water then rinse until clear. Do not twist or wring out the clothes. Lay flat on a towel to dry, away from any sunlight or heat.
Cotton: Cotton clothing and t-shirts
are easy and holds up well. Simply take out the clothes from the dryer to reduce wrinkles and spray some starch!
Cotton Blend: You can dry cotton-blend clothing with your dryer's low-heat cycle or permanent-press, then remove them quickly from the dryer to reduce the likely-hood of wrinkles. Next touch up with a steam-iron.
Denim: Denim should be washed with either warm or cold water inside out. If you mix denim with synthetic fabrics, make sure to follow the care directions. Next, hang the clothes to dry and iron on high heat.
Flannel: You can wash flannel in either warm or cold water. However, if you own flannel that is made of wool (even washable) do not put it in the dryer since the dryer will dry out its fibers.
Nylon: Use warm water for machine-wash nylon clothing. A low-temperature setting is best when drying and using a dryer sheet to reduce static electricity.
Polyester: Some polyester items can be machine-washed but others cannot. It is best to read the label.
Rayon: Always read the care label for rayon clothing. Use cold water and mild detergent when washing rayon clothing. When washing rayon in a washing machine, use a gentle cycle and promptly remove the garmets after washing. If you choose to hand-wash, do not twist or wring out the clothes. To dry, roll in a towel and squeeze out the excess water. Next, lay flat to dry. Iron the clothes while they are still damp.
Spandex: When washing spandex, use warm water whether you are machine-washing spandex or hand-washing. Use a low-temperature setting to preserve the elasticity.
Wool knit: Wool knits typically need to be dry-cleaned, but it is always best to check the label first. If they are hand-washable, use a detergent that is good for fine washables and cool water. Squeeze out any water when you are done and then re-shape the clothes and dry flat. Wool(lined) clothing generally looks best if it is dry-cleaned at least once a season.
